What a great song that brings back so many childhood memories! I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas was a Christms novelty song by John Rox & first sung by Gayla Peevy in 1953. It was told that the song had been recorded as a fund-raiser to bring the Oklahoma City zoo a hippo. It was later confirmed that a local promoter launched a campaign to present Gayla with an actual hippo on Christmas Day. The campaign succeeded and she donated the hippo to the zoo -- the hippo, Matilda lived for almost 50 years! Short sleeve retro tee with a Christmas graphic of a little girl and her pet hippo on front.
