I photographed this unique aurora in March near Denali National Park. I have never seen a similar display. White lights are considered the rarest of all the colors.

In 1619, Galileo named the northern lights after the Roman goddess of morning - Aurora. Ancient peoples thought of them as flying dragons, sky dwellers or dances of the dead.

Rising from forty to several hundred miles above the earth, the aurora borealis is just like neon lights. When electricity runs through certain gases, they glow in certain colors.

It's the great, big broad land 'way up yonder'
It's the forest where silence has lease
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.
