The wood that you see here is the rarest; the most desireable of the wood produced by The Tree, which displays the highly sought after "tortoiseshell" figure. The chatoyance is incredible....this is truly one of the woods that has to be seen in person in order to appreciate it for what it really is. We mounted it to a Gaboon Ebony backer for several reasons, among them strength and stability. We chose Ebony because that combination echoes the look favored by most custom luthiers (the guitars are incredible), which places the rich wood against Ebony banding for contrast.
