Entering service in 1955, the Vickers Valiant was used during the Suez Campaign in 1956. Valiants dropped the first British atomic and hydrogen bombs. 111 were built, and they served through 1964. A number were also configures as aerial tankers, carrying 5,000 gallons of transferrable fuel.

Entering service in 1956, the Avro Vulcan is a medium-range nucler capable bomber, carrying up to 21,000 pounds of bombs, concentional or nuclear. Also capable of carrying the Blue Steel nuclear stand-off missile and the Shrike Anti-Radiation Missile (ARM). To extend their service life, the Mk 2 versions incorporated special equipment for low level navigation and attack.Famously used for the Black Buck raids in the Falklands War of 1982, they required extensive air-to-air refueling support to fly from the Ascension Islands to and from the target. Targets included the airstrip and Argentine SAM radars.
